“The Principal by Fullan has a logical sequential approach to principalship in this new age of instant information.”
– Top rated thought valued by 14 district administrators at Thoughtexchange’s Building Trust Online Leadership Event, Spring 2015.
As a “bonus question” at the Building Trust Online event we facilitated last month (you can find the results of that process here), we asked close to 100 superintendents what articles and other leadership resources they would recommend to their colleagues.
The name that rose to the top was Michael Fullan.
With his most recent title, The Principal, Fullan reveals the three key roles that administrators must play in today’s schools, and explains how to choose the right drivers of school success. He outlines clear action items to help implement his program effectively, and includes strategies that have been successfully field-tested in schools across the US and Canada.
Michael Fullan is the former Dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Recognized as a worldwide authority on educational reform, he advises policymakers and local leaders around the world. Fullan received the Order of Canada in December 2012, and holds honorary doctorates from several universities in North America and abroad.
For those who have a copy of The Principal, Fullan offers a FREE Facilitator’s Guide (password: 27239) for communicating and implementing the concepts discussed in his book.
This professional development kit includes the Facilitator’s Guide, PowerPoint presentations for each of the chapters, PDFs for action items, and discussion topics for each chapter.
This is what some respected reviewers had to say about The Principal:
“This revealing and powerful book comes just in time, as we launch the biggest education reform in the past fifty years. It should be required reading not only for principals, but perhaps even more importantly for those who support and lead them.”
– Laura Schwalm, CaEdPartners, Former Superintendent, Garden Grove, California
“After decades of studying, working with, and enhancing the lot of principals [what is] Fullan’s conclusion? Principals are needed now more than ever, and he’s smack on target. He doesn’t mince words, yet instills hope and confidence. Simply great… this book should be on every leader’s desk. Another bull’s-eye!”
– Willam Parrett, Director, Center for School Improvement and Policy Studies, Boise State University, Idaho
