Q:What qualities or characteristics would you like to see in the next Assistant Principal?
When it comes to hiring a new principal for a school, district leadership often has to strike a balance between being inclusive and making a hire in a timely fashion.
For Parkway Schools, getting feedback from parents and staff when hiring a new school leader like an assistant principal is crucial, so they are using ThoughtExchange to maintain that value and still be responsive in their searches.
“We had to make some pretty quick hiring decisions last year,” explains Parkway’s Director of Communications, Annie Dickerson. “But we always want to go to our parents and staff members to ask what they would like to see in the next leader of their school.”
Dickerson used ThoughtExchange to reach out to the community, quickly get prioritized feedback and discover interests.
“Parents are busy and don’t always have time to drop everything and come to the school on the day of a meeting to tell you what they think is important,” she explains.
“But it’s an important enough topic that they will certainly jump into an exchange and tell you what they want in a leader for their school.
“We have found ThoughtExchange to be a very exciting and very effective way to move the hiring process forward and still get the feedback we need.”
