Creating a culture of learning



Allstate regularly invests in getting quality keynote speakers for learning events. However, Rose Sheldon, Director of Enterprise Learning Programs, faced a problem—how to ensure that as many people as possible in the company were benefiting from them?

With 43,000 employees working in remote offices across the United States, it’s been hard to do using traditional engagement methods. For example, a presentation from a chief officer would be followed by a time-constrained Q and A session, with very little interaction or opportunity for participants to hear and learn from one another.

Sheldon used Thoughtexchange to transform this static feedback format into a dynamic learning opportunity for everyone in the company, not just those attending the event.

“We are able to send Thoughtexchange questions to our learners in advance and say to them: ‘This is the topic. This is the speaker. What things do you want to know or what are your ideas around this topic?’” Sheldon says. “Our speakers were wowed by the fact that we had already provided in-depth details about what our learners wanted to know.”

According to Sheldon, speakers love the format because they can tailor talks to what’s most important for learners. They can also view Thoughtexchange results on the screen during their presentations and respond to thoughts in real time.

She adds that using the software in this way helps Allstate be more efficient and effective when delivering learning events for staff.
